Debate over Rohit Sharma’s batting position continues

By Prakhar Sachdeo

Former Indian cricketers Ravi Shastri and Sunil Gavaskar want Indian captain Rohit Sharma to open the innings in the Brisbane Test against Australia.

Rohit Sharma batted in the middle order in the Adelaide Oval Test in order to let KL Rahul continue opening with Yashasvi Jaiswal.

However, the Indian skipper looked uncomfortable playing the “Pink Ball” as he managed scores of 3 and 6 in India’s 10-wicket loss in Adelaide Test.

Rohit’s retruns in Tests have been poor irrespective of his batting position. Before the Adelaide Test, he was dismissed on the scores of 18,11, 0,8, 2,52, 23,8, 6 and 5 in the five home Tests.

This year Rohit is averaging just 27.13 which is well below is career average of 41.54.

In sharp contrast to Ravi Shastri and Sunil Gavaskar, a BCCI Level 3 coach who who is also a former opener believes Rohit should bat at no.6 as it will help the Indian captain overcome the technical shortcomings that is leading to his early dimissals.

Only Rohit knows what is best for him! We will know where the skipper bats once the Brisbane Test gets underway.
