Suryansh Shedge: Mumbai’s big-hitting batsman who took SMAT  by storm

By Prakhar Sachdeo

21-year-old from Mumbai, Suryansh  Shedge showcased his talent with two remarkable unbeaten scores of 36 in space of five days during the Syed Mushtaq Ahmed Trophy.

First 36 (12 balls) on December 11 vs Vidarbha, where Shedge hit 6, 6, 6, 4 to chase down 65 runs in 29 balls. Next 36 (15 balls) in the final vs Madhya Pradesh, scoring crucial runs when Mumbai needed 46 from 34 balls, hitting two sixes and a four, sealing the win.

“I was told beforehand that this would be my role. I would be batting at 5 or 6. So coming into this tournament, I tweaked my practice sessions a bit. I was playing 6-ball sets, trying to score a certain amount of runs in those 6 balls. That kind of helps,” Shedge said after the SMAT final

Suryansh  Shedge received a vote of confidence from his skipper Shreyas Iyer. The duo will be playing together in the IPL next season for Punjab Kings.

Being a finisher in T20s is about managing nerves and Suryansh Shedge has made a habit of finishing the game with his monster hits. Shedge is a cricket nerd who is glued to YouTube footage of matches when he is not on field.
