Coal production from captive, commercial mines up 35% in Q1

The coal industry experienced a notable increase in production and dispatch in the first quarter of the fiscal year, with a significant rise in output from various sectors and mines. The coal ministry's report highlighted positive growth trends in the industry.

Coal production from captive and commercial mines rose 35% year on year to 39.53 million tonnes in the first quarter of the ongoing financial year.

Dispatch of the fuel from such mines also grew 34.25% to 45.68 million tonnes in the period, the coal ministry said on Wednesday.

Production for the power sector from such mines saw an increase, rising by a fifth to 30.16 million tonnes in the reporting quarter.

The non-regulated sector output grew to 2.55 million tonnes, a 77% year-on-year increase.

The production from mines that were auctioned for commercial sale rose to 6.81 million tonnes, a 143% year-on-year growth.

Dispatch to the power sector increased to 35.65 million tonnes, achieving a 23.3% year-on-year growth.

Dispatch to the non regulated sector rose to 2.38 million tonnes in Q1 of this year, reflecting a 43.4% year-on-year increase.
