Founded in 2019, Nawgati is a one-stop fuel aggregator platform that addresses the pain points of compliance and congestion monitoring for the fuelling industry.
For Vaibhav Kaushik , interning at a company in 2019 meant regular rides in Ola or Uber between his house in Greater Noida and office in Sector 63, Noida.
This is when he started noticing something troubling.
Every time he passed a CNG station, there were always long queues of vehicles waiting to refuel.
“It made me think about how much time and money people wasted just standing in these lines and how much they could save if they knew about other nearby CNG stations with shorter queues,” says Kaushik.
A cab driver, on one of such rides, mentioned he could have earned at least 10% more each day if he didn't have to waste time waiting in line for fuel.
“That conversation sparked a realisation.
What if we could use our technical skills to solve this problem? That was the eureka moment for me,” says Kaushik.
He shared his ideas with his friends and now co-founders, Aalaap Nair and Aryan Sisodia, and the trio decided to take on the challenge.
“None of us had any prior experience in the fuel-tech industry, but we were passionate about solving real-world problems with technology.
This led to the foundation of Nawgati in 2019,” says Kaushik.

Gupta, Professor: Department of Finance and Business Economics, University of Delhi View Program Nawgati today offers a suite of innovative services and products designed to enhance the fuelling experience for both fuel station owners and end consumers.
“Aaveg is our vertical SaaS platform tailored for fuel stations.
It provides a comprehensive retail operations dashboard that displays real-time data on station activities.
This includes transit times, wait times, serve times, attendant density, and resource utilisation.
Aaveg helps fuel station operators manage congestion, monitor compliance, and automate forecourt operations, resulting in improved efficiency and profitability,” says Kaushik, 26. For consumers, the Nawgati Fuel Discovery App is designed to improve the consumer fuelling experience.
It helps users find nearby fuel stations and check fuel availability, prices, and amenities.
The app's real-time data enables users to make informed decisions for fuelling up on the go, saving time and reducing the hassle of long queues.
The company also has a billing app that streamlines the process for fuel stations, ensuring accurate and efficient transactions.
“It integrates seamlessly with existing POS systems at the fuel stations and provides detailed billing reports, helping stations manage their finances better and reduce pilferage,” says Kaushik.

Nawgati’s clientele includes major gas companies and fuel providers that benefit from its technology to optimise their operations.
“We have established partnerships with leading industry players such as Indraprastha Gas Ltd (IGL), Mahanagar Gas Ltd. (MGL), and several others.
Our services are also extending to new markets as we expand into Tier 1 and Tier 2 cities across India,” says Kaushik.
Nawgati uses real-time CCTV footage and deep learning algorithms to monitor congestion and compliance at fuel stations.
The Aaveg platform provides a digital representation of each station, allowing operators to see congestion levels, manage workforce deployment, and ensure compliance with operational standards, helping reduce wait times and improving the state of congestion in front of the fuel station.
“We provide wait times via APIs to the apps operated by gas companies, including IGL Connect and MGL Connect, where the consumers can choose the station as per the distance and wait times,” says Kaushik.
Making lives easier Nawgati addresses several critical issues within the fuelling sector, primarily focusing on reducing congestion and improving compliance monitoring at fuel stations.
The traditional fuelling process involves long queues and inefficient operations, leading to significant time and revenue losses.
By providing real-time data and actionable insights through our platforms, Nawgati helps fuel stations manage their operations more effectively, minimise waiting times, and enhance the overall customer experience.
This not only boosts the efficiency of fuel providers but also ensures that consumers have a smoother, more convenient fuelling process.
Apart from this, Kaushik says Nawgati has invested in making the lives of fuel providers even easier by doing away with the manual checking of hydrotest validity for each vehicle that drives in for refuelling.
“Nawgati installed a real-time hydrotest validity verification system that helps to identify which vehicles are permitted for fuelling or not, thus reducing incidents due to spurious cylinders at outlets,” says Kaushik.
Nawgati has experienced significant growth since its inception.
Nawgati was initially supported by BITS Pilani’s incubator and funded under MeitY’s TIDE 2.0 scheme.
Presently, we have been able to raise additional funds from MapmyIndia, All in Capital, GAIL under their PANKH initiative, and Shark Tank investors.

The company has deployed its edge devices at more than 250 stations in Delhi and Mumbai regions and is in the process of onboarding over 2,000 fuel stations in Tier 1 and Tier 2 cities over the coming year.
“Our existing deployments are live with IGL, MGL, Torrent Gas, JioBP, and petrol pump dealers of IOCL , BPCL , HPCL , and Nayara.
We plan to expand further into other Tier 1 and Tier 2 cities and eventually into Tier 3 cities,” says Kaushik.
“While working at my fuel pump, I kept hearing from a lot of consumers about the Nawgati fuelling app. This got me curious, so I decided to learn more about the company and discovered that it had appeared on Shark Tank.
I immediately reached out to the founder and asked to register us on the app. After joining, we observed an increase in our sales by 200% in just 60 days of being listed on the Nawgati App. I am thankful to Nawgati for creating a platform that helps users to find stations like ours, and allows us to not only address customer reviews but also boost our sales,” says Shubham, the owner of Shubham Petroleum in Jaipur, Rajasthan.
Nawgati’s journey, however, has not been easy.
“Initially, we faced significant challenges in convincing fuel companies and stations to adopt our technology as we were still new and upcoming in this space.
The fuel and energy sector in India still requires significant digitalisation, so there was a natural hesitation toward new, untested technology.
However, we were able to demonstrate the value of our platform through successful pilot runs and strong partnerships, which helped overcome these challenges,” says Kaushik.
Keeping aside the challenges, the pilot runs with top players in this space helped the company look at the problem from the inside out rather than observing it from the outside.
“The pilot projects opened doors for us to understand the pain points of the customers even better and build and test solutions that would offer higher operational efficiency,” says Kaushik.
