JSW MG Motor India handed over 50 Hector Tomahawk EVs to customers in Surat on 28 Sep 2026, a delivery milestone reported by NDTV Auto and Autocar Professional on 29 Sep. For Indian buyers, the event puts a live customer-delivery date behind the new electric SUV, but the more useful questions remain its Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) bill, charging fit and claimed range.

What happened in Surat

NDTV Auto and Autocar Professional reported that JSW MG Motor India delivered 50 Hector Tomahawk EVs in Surat in a single day on 28 Sep. The company described the handover as a milestone for the recently launched electric SUV and linked it to interest in the model and wider EV adoption.

This is a local delivery event, not a national sales or registration result. It therefore shows that customer handovers have started, while it does not by itself establish the vehicle’s market share, waiting period or demand across India. MG’s launch material had said EV deliveries would begin in September 2026.

Price: lower entry cost or different payment structure?

The Hector Tomahawk EV is being offered with two ownership routes. MG’s published introductory BaaS price starts at ₹13.99 lakh plus ₹4.90 per km for battery usage, while the introductory ex-showroom price with the full vehicle starts at ₹19.49 lakh. The BaaS offer is for a limited number of bookings, and both figures are before registration, insurance, taxes and other on-road charges.

The per-kilometre line changes the monthly-cost calculation. At the published introductory rate as of 30 Sep 2026, 1,000 km in a month would mean ₹4,900 in battery rental, while 15,000 km in a year would mean ₹73,500. Ask for a written city quote. Confirm the exact variant, ex-showroom price, registration, insurance, accessories and any delivery-related charges for Surat or the buyer’s location.
Read the BaaS agreement. The ₹4.90-per-km figure is not the complete energy bill. Check how kilometres are recorded, when the charge is collected, what happens on resale and whether any minimums, taxes or other conditions apply.
Test the charging plan. Confirm home-charger installation feasibility, the available electrical load and the public chargers used on regular inter-city routes. A long-range claim is less useful if the owner cannot charge conveniently.
Separate claimed range from daily range. Ask for a test drive with the expected passenger and luggage load, and compare the displayed consumption with the route the vehicle will actually cover.

What the milestone means next

The Surat handover gives the Hector Tomahawk EV an early delivery reference point, but the next useful evidence will be broader: deliveries in more cities, official monthly sales or registration data, real-world charging experience and the price after the introductory booking window. The PHEV version has a separate timeline, with MG’s launch material saying test drives and deliveries are due to begin in November 2026; that should not be treated as an EV delivery date.
