What is pushing prices up
Three factors are working together: renewed volatility in global crude oil, a softer rupee that makes imports costlier, and the timing of revisions by oil marketing companies (OMCs), which can hold or pass on changes in steps. Because state VAT and local levies differ, the same litre of petrol can vary by several rupees between neighbouring cities.
