Larsen & Toubro partners with Clean Core Thorium Energy for nuclear power
Engineering major Larsen & Toubro (L&T) and US-based nuclear fuel company Clean Core Thorium Energy (CCTE), have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to provide efficient solutions in clean energy globally.

Through the partnership, L&T and CCTE aim to accelerate nuclear power deployment globally, particularly in developing countries that require large amounts of carbon-free electricity for their growth, the company said in a regulatory filing.

This would be provided through CCTE’s patented fuel advanced nuclear energy for enriched life (Aneel). The Aneel fuel will promote clean energy, non-proliferation, enhanced safety, decarbonization of hard-to-abate industries, and a circular economy.

“In view of increasing demand for nuclear energy across the globe, we are in the process of identifying new opportunities to offer ‘One Stop Solutions’ to our customers," said Anil Parab, whole-time director and senior executive vice president, heavy engineering and L&T valves, adding that establishing a world-class supply chain for Aneel fuel, by leveraging L&T’s manufacturing prowess, is a step in that direction.

"L&T will support CCTE within the purview of the Indian legal framework.

” The Aneel fuel is made of thorium and enriched uranium developed for use in Pressurised Heavy Water Reactors (PHWR) and Canada Deuterium Uranium (CANDU) Reactors and Advanced Nuclear Reactors.

Proliferation-resistant Aneel fuel is expected to significantly reduce life-cycle operating costs and the waste produced (by over 85% while improving safety due to its Accident Tolerant Fuel characteristics). Mehul Shah, Founder and CEO of CCTE, said: “This partnership will activate Indo-US civil nuclear co-operation signed back in 2008.

” Under a Strategic Partnership Project Agreement with the US Department of Energy (DOE), CCTE’s Aneel fuel is undergoing accelerated irradiation testing and qualification in the Advanced Test Reactor at Idaho National Lab. It is on its way to achieving planned burn-up targets of up to 60 GWd/T. Clean Core has also been actively partnering and engaging with key industry players including regulators, utilities, and suppliers to achieve the successful commercialization of the Aneel fuel by 2026.

For buyers, the story is less about balance-sheet ambition and more about what kind of cars Tata wants to sell next.

Petrol, Diesel Rates May Ease As Cheaper Crude Arrives: What Hardeep Puri’s Signal Means For India

Union Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri says petrol and diesel rates in India may ease once recently bought cheaper crude reaches refiners, after global oil prices cooled and Brent slipped below $80 a barrel. The signal matters because India imports most of its crude, so any sustained fall can filter through to motorists, freight users and inflation. But the relief is unlikely to be immediate, because fuel prices depend on inventory cycles, logistics and how quickly oil companies pass on lower input costs.
